1.2 How does the new online filing (CMS) application work?

You can use the new online filing (CMS) application to file the following applications and documents with the EPO:
  • EP Form 1001 (EP direct)
  • EP Form 1200 (Euro-PCT)
  • PCT/RO/101
  • EP Form 1038 (subsequent actions for all EP and PCT procedures, including PCT Chapter II demand, opposition and appeal phases)
The PCT Chapter II demand and notice of opposition may only be filed as a PDF of a form completed offline.
For details relating to access to and use of the new online filing (CMS) application see the Decision of the President of the European Patent Office
dated 11 March 2015 concerning the filing of documents using the EPO case management system (CMS).

System maintenance

In order to introduce new functionalities into its forms to comply with new regulations or to enhance the application,
the EPO will perform system maintenance in the CMS. When system maintenance has been performed for forms, this is what you can expect:
  • For applications with “Draft” or “Signed” status, when a form is adjusted during system maintenance, the status of the application will be reset to “Revise”.
  • When you view an application for which form changes have been implemented during system maintenance, a system message appears.
You will be asked to review the application and to check whether it needs to be adjusted.
  • Validation messages will guide you through what needs to be adjusted in the form.
These messages can also be viewed in the “System messages” tab.

Account management

Only users with administration rights have access to the account management functions and “Account management” tab. In “Account management”,
you can manage the access rights to, and user preferences for, user accounts for your organisation or company.

Users with administration rights can manage the following access rights:
  • Address book management
  • Organisation administration
  • Procedures
  • Task groups
  • Access to the organisation or company’s account
  • Addition of new users

For more information on account management, go to the user guide at New online filing (CMS) or use the online help in the application.
