You can invoke several actions in BiSSAP, i.e. add, modify or verify certain elements in the BiSSAP database. This page provides an overview of all these actions, with a brief description of each.

Project-related actions

New project

Invoking Select New Project from the File menu.
Result Opens a window into which you enter basic information about the project like name, invention title, and language of the file.

Import draft

Invoking Select Import Draft from the File menu.
Result Creates a new project. The content is imported from a special temporary draft file into the internal database. This file has an XML-like structure, but it is not in the standard XML sequence listing format. This file may be incomplete, since verification is not performed during the import.

Load sequence listing

Invoking Select Load Sequence Listing from the File menu.
Result Creates a new project with a name given by you. The project content is imported from the file selected by you. The resulting project is verified. If there are any errors, the Report Viewer opens.

Verify project

Invoking Right-click the project in the Project Browser, then select Verify Project from the pop-up menu.
Result Runs a verification routine. If there are any errors, they are displayed in the Report View window. If you click the error, an editor appropriate for correcting this error will open. The progress indicator shows you how advanced the process is. The process can be run in the background by pressing the button Run in background.

Verify all projects

Invoking You can verify all the projects in the BiSSAP workspace by choosing Tools->Verify all projects
Result Runs a verification routine on all projects. If there are any errors, they are displayed in the Report View window. If you click the error, an editor to correct this error opens. The progress indicator informs you how advanced the process is. The process can be run in the background by pressing the button Run in background.

Batch verification

Invoking You can verify selected files from a single directory and its subdirectories by choosing Tools->Batch verification. A wizard guides you through the process of selecting the directory and then the files.
Result Verifies and produces an error report for all the files in a given directory without loading these files into the BiSSAP workspace.

Export As Draft

Invoking Right-click the project in the Project Browser, then select Export As Draft from the pop-up menu.
Result The content of the project is exported into a special intermediary draft file, which has an XML-like structure.
Remarks This function is a means of sharing incomplete, i.e. currently incorrect, project data. Do not submit this file to a patent office. It will be rejected.

Generate Sequence Listing

Invoking Right-click the name of the project containing the data for this sequence listing, then select Generate Sequence Listing
Result Generates a sequence listing file.
Remarks -

Edit Project Metadata

Invoking Right-click the project, then select Edit Project.
Result Opens a window in which you can change the project name, invention title, reference/docket number etc.
Remarks -

Delete project

Invoking Right-click the project, then select Delete Project. Alternatively, select project and then click Delete.
Result Opens a confirmation dialog. Answer “OK” to delete, otherwise “Cancel”.

Content-related actions

Create Sequence

Invoking In the Project Browser right-click the Sequences node for this project and select Create sequence from the pop-up menu. Alternatively, right-click anywhere in the Sequence Browser and select Create sequence from the pop-up menu.
Result Opens the Create sequence window. Enter the data, and then confirm to create the sequence. The new sequence will be added to the Sequence browser.

Create Empty Sequence

Invoking In the Project Browser right-click the Sequences node for this project and select Create sequence without residues ('000' sequence) from the pop-up menu. Alternatively, right-click in the Sequence browser and select Create sequence without residues ('000' sequence) from the pop-up menu.
Result Creates an empty sequence. This sequence cannot be edited. The purpose of this sequence is to avoid gaps in the numbering.
Remarks -

Edit Sequence

Invoking Right-click the sequence in the Sequence Browser, then select Edit Sequence. Alternatively, double-click on the sequence in the Sequence Browser
Result Opens a sequence editor, with the sequence data loaded.
Remarks Features and qualifiers cannot be edited using a sequence editor. Use a feature editor instead.

Generate Protein corresponding to a CDS feature

Invoking Right-click the sequence and select Generate Protein.
Result The amino acid sequence corresponding to the CDS feature is created and appended at the end of the current list of sequences.
Remarks If the sequence has more CDS features, a window opens containing a list of them. Select the features you want to use in the translations.

Remove Sequence

Invoking Right-click the sequence in the Sequence Browser, then select Delete sequence.
Result Opens a confirmation screen. If you answer “OK”, the sequence is removed.

Remove Sequences

Invoking Right-click the Sequences node in the Project Browser. Select Delete all sequences.
Result Opens a confirmation screen. If you answer “OK”, all the sequences are removed.

Create Feature

Invoking Right-click on the sequence in the Sequence Browser or, alternatively, right-click the Features node under the sequence in the Sequence Browser. Select Create Feature.
Result Opens a feature-creation dialog.

Edit Feature

Invoking Right-click the feature in the Sequence Browser. Select Edit Feature. Alternatively, double-click on the feature in the Sequence Browser.
Result Opens a feature editor. You can edit the feature.

Invoking Right-click the feature in the Sequence Browser, then select Delete feature.
Result Opens a confirmation screen. If you answer “OK”, the feature is removed.

Result Opens a confirmation screen. If you answer “OK”, all the features are removed.

Restart

Invoking Select File->Restart from the main menu.
Result Restarts the program.

Result Changes the language of BiSSAP.

Invoking Select Tools->Backup
Result Opens a dialog through which you can make a backup file of all BiSSAP data.

Result Opens a tool for managing, creating and deleting applicants for reuse in projects.
