BiSSAP provides a list of country names to be used in its forms. This list conforms to the WIPO ST.36 standard. To consult the list of country names used, see the WIPO website.

Please note that the names of international patent offices, like the European Patent Office, also appear on the country list. You can use the names of these offices in all forms, wherever country means the place for which patent protection is sought.

Special case

Although the ST.25 standard does not require you to specify a country in the priority claim, XML and BiSSAP require country information for correct operation. To cope with situations like this, you can select a “country” called Unknown. Please note that BiSSAP does not allow you to select Unknown in the forms. This “country” exists only after import. Wherever country information is mandatory, BiSSAP does not allow you to save (generate) sequence listings with the country Unknown.

Preferences

In Preferences, you can select the countries from the supported list that you want displayed in BiSSAP forms. This saves you time when entering data.
